Ipoh Funny Mountain near look

This time we move to the Perak, Ipoh related food. This was the Funny Mountain shop that selling Soya Milk, Tou Fu Fa and etc, consider a dessert and drinks, because Soya Milk was a drinks while Tou Fu Fa was consider dessert. I’m sure many people who live in Ipoh know about this shop.

Although this shop was not very big, but actually they has a lot of business, everyday a lot of customer stop by to drinks the Soya Milk and Tou Fu Fa. Myself alway come here for Tou Fu Fa only because it was great ^^. This shop got one nick name, “drive through Tou Fu Fa”, because many people stop by in the car and enjoy the drinks inside the car, as you can see at the above picture, the person beside the red car (Proton Wira), was the staff that taking order for the customer (drive through) service. While for me, I prefer sit there and enjoy.

Ipoh Funny Mountain Tou Fu Fa

Actually here not much place to sit, just few chair that it, either you can sit or stand or inside the car to enjoying the drinks. This was the Tou Fu Fa I order, it quite small and little, and here there was no ice provide by them for the Tou Fu Fa, I don’t know why, maybe they want customer to enjoy the Tou Fu Fa in the most traditional and most delicious way.

Ipoh Funny Mountain Tou Fu Fa

Closer look of the Tou Fu Fa, just a small bowl of it, and it just cost RM0.80, not too expensive, while 1 bowl of Tou Fu Fa was enough for me. This Tou Fu Fa not like others, because it was quite “smooth” and the taste was great, yummy~. This was not perfect of cause, sometime the Tou Fu Fa here also not that good as usual, maybe the day the maker feel sick lol ^^. Overall was great.

Starring at the sky while enjoying the Tou Fu Fa, it was quite a good feeling, that why I prefer not to drive through. If you like the Tou Fu Fa in cold, I suggest you to take-away and put it in your refrigerator at home. Take-away will slightly cost more, around RM1.2 or RM1.4 (if I’m not wrong), because the quantity they give was more and the tupperware that used for take-away too. “Drive Through Tou Fu Fa” was the best for me so far, maybe there where other place that also great or better, if you know any, please tell us.

The main entrance of RESTORAN SOONG KEE BEEF BALL NOODLE

This was the year 2009 first post, so Happy New Year everyone (ya, I know it was late). Recommend this Beef Ball Noodle, or Soong Kee Beef Mee in KL for everyone, for what I know, totally has 3 famous Beef Ball Noodle around KL area, one was near/beside one of the exit/entrance of the Petalling Street, one behind the Jalan Alor(hopefully right word) and one was this Soong Kee Beef Ball Noodle, located at Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin.

I going to Soong Kee having my brunch(again) with my friend, according to my friend, it will be a lot of customer during lunch hour (office hour). Actually this photo was taken on last week (one of the holiday), and after 2pm, so not much people lol. That how the internal look nice, not too cool, or much decoration, a standard chinese restaurant. Here has 2 type of thing to eat, beef ball noodle and beef innards or organ, this was what I saw, if I miss something please point me out ^^.

Beef Ball

Me and my friend ordering for a normal Beef Ball Noodle, add extra minced meat (beef) in the noodle, ordering for a common drink “liong sui / liang sui” (i don’t know what it call in english). Above picture was beef ball which was serve together with the noodle, quite alot beef ball, and it quite nice for chew.

The noodle that serve with minced beef and some vegetable was arrived, basically it come on the sametime as beef ball. First thing I taste was the minced beef, and I love this restaurant’s minced beef because all other beef ball noodle that has this minced beef also has some smell (not sure what it call, but for me it was a strange smell). I’m not sure it was because it original has that smell or what, I don’ t like that smell which make my appetite gone, but this Soong Kee Beef Noodle was different, the minced beef clearly don’t have that weird smell, so I love it ^^. If you don’t like that strange smell which same as me, then this Soong Kee was definately the best choice. After that I mix everything inside the noodle, it taste real good because of the of the taste minced beef.

This meal we ate was cost around RM14(or RM16 -.-’), me and my friend was eating samething, so 1 person around RM7, including the noodle (extra minced beef), the meat/beef ball, and a drink I order. We did not try the beef innard/organ, because recently it like ate a lot of organ, so not that good lol ^^. Kin No Uma Japanese Restaurant Logo

Kin No Uma Japanese Restaurant was located inside the Palace of the Golden Horses. Although it is a restaurant, but actually on saturday night, it offer a buffet service, so Glenn has invited me go there have a buffet, and it quite near to Glenn house too. Myself actually try 3 time Japanese type buffet, 1st time was in Shogun (1 Utama), then Jogoya (Starhill), and this Kin No Uma. For me, Jogoya Japanese Buffet was on completely different level, while Kin No Uma is good too (it depends on personal taste and preference).

Actually we has miscalculate some part, for example, didn’t take the photo of the hotel and the environment of the restaurant, next time will do better.

Some Maki & Sashimi

It is because the restaurant not too big, and because it is buffet, many food has place outside the shop, so we need to take the food from outside to inside, and quite many choice, like Tempura, Teppanyaki, Unagi, soup, salad, and etc. The first thing we ate was some Maki sushi and sashimi, and its taste good, the Sashimi was pretty fresh too. Actually I still do not know many of the name, like that flower decoration Sashimi (decorate by Glenn). The portion of the food here quite small compare to other Japanese Buffet, I mean it small in size like the salmon Sashimi, but actually it is no different, because you can take more, I think because the class here is different (maybe? I don’t know). The  beverages in here not said too many, from what I saw, it has green tea, sugar cane, coffee, and etc. Not too sure here has offer some alcohol or not.

Teppanyaki Chicken and Beef

After I finish the Sushi and Sashimi, then we go to order the California Roll, it need to fresh made, or else it won’t taste good. Then I walk around to search for other food. One of my favorite was this Teppanyaki, it totally got 4 type of Teppanyaki to let us choose, I only remember chicken, beef, lamb and vegetables though we didn’t try it. The picture above only show chicken and beef, actually we has take the lamb Teppanyaki photo, but it very not clear. Both chicken and lamb was really yummy, but the beef was a little dry, so it was not that nice.

Tempura & California Roll

Some seafood soup and Chuka Hotate

After pump in so many food, so I choose this sea food soup, and some Chuka Hotate, I like Chuka Cotate, but I think it in Gunkan Sushi will be taste good. In the soup section, actually customer can put in some other seafood, vegetable too, more choice. The soup a bit too salty for me.

Beside this few type of food, we actually has tried others, like Unagi, Smoked Salmon Head and etc. I like the Unagi here more than Jogoya, the Unagi here is really really yummy. Then of cause the dessert, dessert is one of the important option after heavy food, both of us has try some of the Mochi (hopefully right word). Then finally was the fresh fruits.

Overall this Japanese buffet was quite good, the level was there, at least than last time I try in the Shogun. After this buffet, I was like full until can’t move. The total for both of us was around RM160.00 (include tax).

The next target of the Japanese Buffet was Sasaki, and might going back to the Jogoya, at that time I will sure to take as much photo as I can, to prevent lack of example and not clear.

Kiwi Xpress Bakery & Cafe

A kiwi is any of the species of flightless birds endemic to New Zealand of the genus Apteryx . At around the size of a domestic chicken, kiwi are by far the smallest living ratites. All kiwi species are endangered. The kiwi is also a national symbol of New Zealand. The kiwi lays the largest egg in relation to its body size.

That’s Kiwi, and no we’re not asking you to eat them. Frankly, its about the Kiwi Fruit aka Kiwi Juice. This very shop at Mount Kiara is has fresh kiwi juice served per order though i cannot say for sure that it contains 100% pure kiwi. From drinking it, i can safely say it has kiwi though cause i can actually feel small chunks of kiwi whenever i take a slip from the straw. Kiwi at its purest pleasure. Plus it doesn’t have pre-added sugar, so you can drink it naturally or drink it with some sugar that they provide in a vial which a customer can pour according to their wants.

Then cause Sola was hungry, we ordered the usual Chips, cause to be very very honest, most of the food here are expansive, cause it is situated in a rich neighbourhood anyways.

Chun Heong Restaurant

Going out with Glenn having my brunch (breakfast & lunch), while for him is lunch, somewhere near the Bangsar, KL. Forget to copy the address, so later I will use google map below to indicate the restaurant location. Inside this Chun Heong restaurant is some common chinese restaurant which a lot of stall, inside at least has around 7 ~ 8 stall (maybe more) of different food. I going there actually for the Pork Innards Congee/Porridge, because around 5 or 6 years never ate and I heard this porridge also not bad.

It is very full of people when we reach the restaurant, beause it is lunch time, even no seat, lucky no need to wait long, or else I will faint because too hungry already. I order for Pork Innards Congee and Glenn was order for Pan Mee.

Pork Innards Congee/Porridge

Pork Innards Congee/Porridge (猪杂粥) or Pig Organ Porridge, actually a porridge cook together with the pork meat and pig organ, like intestine, stomach, liver and etc. While above the porridge is the fried pork intenstine with some of the “you ja gui” (油炸鬼/油条) (is a long, golden-brown, deep fried strip of dough, when mix with other food, it is very delicious, for example porridge, bak kut teh and etc). Those fried pork intenstine and you ja gui is very crunchy, and after mix with the porridge, the taste is very good. The porridge itself also very tasty, beside this, those organ inside the porridge also very good, and do not has those weird smell, if those organ never clean nicely, it will has some weird smell which make whole porridge spoiled. This food just cost RM4.00, which is worth it, although the picture look quite little thing in the porridge but actually all the ingredient hide inside the porridge, when I ate it, I only know >.<”.

Pan Mee

The Pan Mee here was quite good in my opinion, just that it lacked in some parts but what can i complain about when that’s the standard bowl size. Pan Mee is basically made out of flour and eggs that you stir together with a little water and leave it to expand a little. This particular shop’s Pan Mee was quite delicious, though the Mee was slightly on the thin side as i prefer it being thick.

The soup wasn’t too salty, nor was it plain tasting. More so, it tasted like the type of soup a good bowl of Pan Mee should have because the soup plays an important part if your having the wet one which is in soup, but less if you enjoy eating Pan Mee dry, with the soup on a separate bowl.

The price for this bowl of Pan Mee was RM4 also being that it was the same as the Pork Innard Congee.

Restaurant Sun Ming

Restaurant Sun Ming is famous in Taman Connaught for its wonderful and delicious Duck Rice. Me and Sola have personally dined here twice so far in 1 month. (Yes twice only cause its kinda far for us and Sola introduced this place to me first).

All i can say its very very pack during lunch hours, it was literary filled with people eating and queuing for take away. They have 2 shop lots to run their business and it is mostly always full of folks as long as it is time for food.

Siew Youk and Duck (The serving is small cause i ate some of it)

This is the main thing most folks come here for, the duck. And boy oh boy it was delicious. The taste and texture was just perfect, not to mention the Siew Youk compliments to its fine taste. Both of these were very fresh as they should be and have enough taste in them to kick start someone’s lifeless stomach.

Soup, Chap Choi and More Siew Youk/Duck

Soup is a common thing for most Chinese restaurants, don’t ask me why, but it just is. I recommend you to give any particular soup a try to help refresh your throat from any dryness. Some of these soup are boiled with some herbs in them that is very beneficial for people to drink but some actually make you get sick if you don’t drink much water or are always dehydrated.

Chap Choi is hard to explain but here goes. Its basically umm salted vegetables cooked with dried chillies and some other stuff i cant remember, but all i know it that’s its good and it tastes like slightly spicy and slightly sourish.

As for the pricing, both of us, sharing the soup and the Chap Choi, and each our own Siew Youk/Duck was roughly Rm21 which we find pretty good for the quality and taste of the food, as duck rice was never cheap to begin with anyways. We’re guessing roughly the soup would be around Rm3, the Chap Choi at 1-2, and the rest is as that.

J.CO Donuts & Coffee

This is the 1st post about the food & restaurant, actually the photo was taken quite sometime ago, some of the photo not so clear, sorry about that.

The place I go was the J.CO Donuts at PAVILION Kuala Lumpur, the shop is at the Food Republic area. Currently I think is very common in KL, since it open for very long time ago, many people know and try about it. And this food was not a big deal any more, but I would like to share as well, since the donuts from J.CO was consider a very delicious donuts. “Don’t blame us for making you an addict!” which was J.CO Donuts’ slogan (it is call slogan?)

This is the 1st time i ate so delicious donuts, I recommend to try, the price was reasonable. Beside donuts also have beverage like coffee and so on, but I didn’t try the beverage. The price for glazzy RM2.00/each, RM9.60/half dozen, RM16.20/dozen and RM28.60/2 dozen. For assorted(or other than glazzy) is RM2.30/each, RM11.00/half dozen, RM19.10/dozen and RM33.40/2 dozen. Hopefully the price still correct >.<”. I personally love the Alcapone donuts, tasty :p.

If I remember correctly, currently there are only have 2 shop in Malaysia, PAVILION KL and Sunway Pyramid.

Firstly let me say that this will be a haven for food lovers that wish to dine on the good food that Malaysia has to offer, which will include directions, rough estimation of the food prices, the type of food served and whats popular at the very location.

For now, we’ll likely to focus on just Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh foods and will expand in due time. As people once said, “All in due time”.
